Drab to Fab . . .

I have finally finished my curtain panel project! I know, it's about time, right?

Remember when I first told you about the fabulous linen napkins I found at Tar-jay? I wanted to spruce up my family room so I re-covered some pillows with the napkins. Then I found a tablecloth in the same fabric and it was on clearance!! I decided to add some of the fabric to my plain and boring fabric panels. This is what they looked like before:

Here is what they look like now:

All I did was cut the tablecloth to the length and width I wanted then hot glued it right on the panels. I also added some trim to finish it off. What do you think?  I love the way it looks! Here is a closer view:

I also changed the accessories around on my shelves in the family room.

I absolutely love these shelves! I got them on sale at Pottery Barn years ago. Since I don't have a fireplace mantel to decorate, these are the next best thing!

Here is what my family room is looking like now:

I'm still waiting for Handyman Hubby to put up the crown moulding in here. I think that will make a huge difference!

So far I'm liking the changes I've made in here. What do you all think? Anything you would add or change?

I can't end this post without a picture of Cocoa, her babies and Jake:

Have a great weekend!

Cocoa's Babies . . .

Last night, Hannah came into my bedroom at 1:00 AM and said she heard squeeky noises coming from Cocoa's cage. She has been doing this ever since we found out Cocoa was pregnant so I figured it was another "false alarm". Well, I was wrong! Cocoa had her babies last night and so far, mama and babies are doing well.

Guinea pig babies are born fully developed with their eyes open and a full coat of fur. They are the cutest little pigs I've ever seen!

As you can see from the photos, one of the babies is much smaller. I was really worried but it seems to be eating and getting stronger.  We weighed each of them and the larger 2 are about 3 ounces and the little one is about 1.7 ounces. Right now we don't know the sex of the babies but once they get bigger we should be able to tell.

Cocoa is a great mama! They follow her all around the cage and make the cutest little noises! Needless to say, I haven't done much of anything today except watch Cocoa with her babies!

Sneak Peak . . .

I have been working on this all day and only burned myself with the glue gun about 6 times!

I ran out of the ball fringe so I'm heading to JoAnn's to pick up some more. Hopefully this will all be finished tomorrow and I can share lots of pictures with you. So far I'm really loving it!!

Pet Party

Debbiedoos is having a Pet Party over on her blog. Sounds like lots of fun so count me in!! We have 2 furry friends (soon to be 5!!) that we absolutely adore.

Jake is our Maltese and he joined our family about 3 1/2 years ago. He is the perfect dog for us. He doesn't shed and loves to cuddle.

Look at that face!  Isn't he just the cutest!!!

This is what Jake does most of the day - sleep, sleep and sleep some more!

He loves his dog bed too!

We also have a guinea pig named Cocoa. She just recently joined our family about 7 weeks ago. Last week we found out that Cocoa is pregnant!  The x-ray showed 3 babies and they should be here soon!!

Look how cute she is!  Now she's much bigger because those 3 babies are growing fast!

Cocoa loves carrots and hay and is so sweet!  We can't wait for the baby guinea pigs to arrive!

Here are Jake and Cocoa together - they really do like each other!

Thanks Debbie for hosting such a fun party!

I Was Not Expecting That!!!

Happy Friday everyone! I have some interesting news to share with all of you. It has nothing to do with decorating or being thrifty but I'm going to share anyway. Remember my daughter Hannah wanted a guinea pig for Christmas? Well, she got one and absolutely loves her. I've never owned a guinea pig before so I didn't know what to expect. I thought she was eating A LOT and seemed to be growing FAST.

I read some stuff online and really starting wondering if she was pregnant. A visit to the vet confirmed that yes she is pregnant with THREE babies!!  Obviously she was pregnant when we got her about 6 weeks ago so the babies should be arriving soon!

Hannah is so excited and wants to keep all 3 babies - that is not happening!  : )  She's been asking a lot of questions about how the babies got in there and where do they come out. I wasn't planning on having the "talk" with her yet but I think it's gonna happen whether I want it to or not.

Here is a photo of Cocoa when we got her (before she got BIG) -

So there is my unexpected news of the week. I still can't believe it!

A little advice for anyone thinking about getting a guinea pig - make sure the males & females are separated or get a male!  They are great pets for kids because they don't bite and are easy to care for.  Unless, of course, you get a pregnant female like we did!!

I'm off to pack my scrapbooking supplies. Going to an all-day scrap on Saturday with my BFF. I might actually get a few pages done!

Have a great weekend!!

Trading Spaces . . .

Do you all remember this show?  I was a huge fan of Trading Spaces and watched it every week.  It looked like so much fun but I don't think I could ever let someone else decorate my house.  Some of the decorators did some really ugly and weird stuff!

Remember when Hildi spray painted a sofa hot pink!? Or when she stapled silk flowers on all the walls in a bathroom!?  Can you imagine walking in your bathroom and seeing hundreds of flowers all over the walls!!  Think about all the holes that would need to be patched after taking all the flowers off!!

I remember when Trading Spaces came to Powell, Ohio (about 10 minutes from where I live!). One of the designer's was Doug and he decorated the master bedroom like a prison and named
it "The Prison of Love"!!  What a nightmare!!

Oprah's new network OWN is showing The Best of Trading Spaces. Paige Davis goes back to see what the homeowners really thought and what their room looks like now. It's so much fun to watch those episodes again.

Did you ever watch Trading Spaces?  Do you think you could let someone else decorate your house?

Have a great day!

What A Mess!!

Today I'm linking up to Decor Chick's "Real Home's, Real Messes, Real Life" party.

This is such a great idea! Most of us post the "pretty pictures" of our home and that's just not real life people! I wish my house looked perfect and clean all the time but it doesn't. So here's the proof that my house get's messy:

Remember when I shared Taylor's bedroom redo with you?  I cleaned and organized and it looked so nice.

Here's the reality of what her room usually looks like.

Nice, huh? Sometimes I go in and clean up but usually it looks like this every day.
Hey, what's that?  A half-eaten Kit Kat? She's so busted!!

Let's not leave little sis out of this party. She has a stuffed animal obsession and her room looks like this:

She actually sleeps in there with all those stuffed animals! She puts them each in a certain place every night before going to bed. Can we say OCD!!??

Here is what I wish my basement family room looked like right now.

Here's the real deal:

My pretty decorative pillows all smashed and thrown on the floor. Oh, I didn't get a close up of the futon cover but it has little chocolate milk stains all over (thanks Hannah!).  I had just taken off the cover and washed it too!!

Let's take a look at the other side of the room, shall we?

Looks like Hannah's stuffed animals have exploded all over the floor!

More crap-o-la everywhere!!  I cleaned out my kitchen cupboards and brought stuff to the basement and here it is. All over my craft/scrapbook table. No wonder I never get any scrapbooking done!!

There you have it. My messy house for the whole world to see. I should probably get off the computer and go clean now!

I've Been A Busy Little Bee . . . .

Happy weekend everyone! I have finally checked a few items off my "to do" list. Yeah!!  First up was my kitchen cabinets. About 2 weeks ago I cleaned out the top cabinets and junk drawer in my kitchen. Yesterday I finally got the bottom cabinets cleaned out and Handyman Hubby put some new contact paper in for me.  Just look at what a mess my tupperware cabinet was!!

Everything was just crammed in there and I couldn't find anything without emptying half the cabinet!  I found lids with no bowls and bowls with no lids! After sorting through everything here is what it looks like now - so much better!

Another project I wanted to finish was my family sign. Remember the sign in my bay window?  I changed it out for the EAT letters and jumbo spoon & fork. I wanted something different so I painted the sign white then added our last name and year we were married. I used an ink pad and sand paper to distress it a little. Here's what I ended up with:

Just think how nice it will look when those cabinets are painted white!

On Monday I'm linking up to Decor Chicks party "Real Houses, Real Messes, Real Life".  Yes my house gets messy and I have the pictures to prove it!

I Had Big Plans. . . .

Sorry peeps! I had big plans to get some fun stuff done this week but I came down with a cold and my camera is acting up. Ahh! What else is going to go wrong?

I did get a quick little project for Valentine's Day finished . . .

Isn't she cute? I had to hurry and glue the candy hearts on before I ate them all!  : )   These are just as easy to make as the gumdrop tree's I made for Christmas.  All you need is a glue gun, a foam cone and candy.

What I really wanted to work on involved more linen napkins from Target. I went back and got another set of 4 napkins for $9.99. Then I added some fun fringe (from JoAnn's) to one of the napkins.

How stinkin cute is that!!

Okay, this is what I planned on doing with the napkins until I got sick . . .

These are my plain, boring panels in my family room. I just clipped the napkin up there to see how it would look and I'm kinda liking it.  What do you think?  Should I go for it and sew them on and add trim?

Here is another photo. See how boring they are? I think they definitely need something. Let me know what you think!
